Dogs need confident owners and that's just what Four Paws One Direction gives you. Their positive and encouraging training has helped me develop a really good relationship  with my Bouvier. I took Dilla for puppy training and then started going back

some months later when I realised I needed more support and guidance from a canine expert! I can't recommend Shelley and her work enough. Both Dilla and I enjoy the sessions which have far reaching effects outside the classroom!

Daisy and I went to Shelley's puppy classes, they were fun, friendly and helped socialise and build confidence in Daisy, who by nature is quite a nervous and sensitive girl. Daisy is 3 years old now, and we have continued with classes and take part in Shelley's agility training, which we love and

look forward to every week. It's great exercise for Daisy and me and has played a huge part in Daisy's continued confidence and the special bond I have with her. I also find it quite a social thing, as from coming to classes I have met a lot of lovely people and dogs.

A snapshot of our training with Shelley would say, to us, that her classes are friendly and relaxed, with each individual dog’s needs completely understood and catered for.  All can move forward at their own pace, and with Shelley's magic touch, each lesson gives our dogs even more

enjoyment, enhancing their learning skills and building a strong partnership between the dogs and their humans.

On so many walks lately strangers have come up to me and remarked on both dogs and told me out of the blue what lovely dogs I have ( I know this of course, but it is really nice when someone else tells you!). It suddenly made me realise what you had actually done for Casey (and me). As we

know, he hasn't been the easiest dog in the world but on many occasions now I look at him and see a well trained and well behaved dog; he still has his moments but he is only 10 months old.The training classes were all well structured, fun and easy to understand and we both enjoyed coming. I don't think I really understood at the time how much we were both learning but now I can appreciate how we have both benefited from your constant encouragement and guidance. At the moment we are doing 'wait at the gate', as sheep are being moved regularly into different fields on our daily walk and it just gives me a moment to assess the need for a lead at each field; Casey has picked this up really quickly, and I remember you had a gate on one of the training classes and he obviously remembers that as well (it is proving invaluable).

Why did I take my dog to puppy school?

Having had a couple of very difficult rescue dogs, who never had the benefit of early training and socialisation, I was determined that my pup would have a good start in life. I wanted a dog that would be sociable and well-behaved for my sake, the sake of other dogs and for society in general.

Did it work?

Yes, it did.

Then why am I still taking my dog, now 19 months old, to training classes?

There are dogs who can just go to puppy training classes and not need more. However, I have a strong-willed and highly intelligent dog, and long walks and a cosy bed are not enough for him; he needs the mental stimulation of on-going training. I am very committed to his well-being but the reality is that I would not do enough training on my own. I have no interest in competing in shows and so on, just in having a well-balanced and happy dog.

Why Four Paws One Direction?

Because the classes are small, lessons are well prepared with clear aims ensuring both dogs and owners understand the rationale behind the tasks, and. most importantly, dogs learn through positive reinforcement, no negative training methods are used.

Does my dog enjoy his weekly classes?

Yes, but he would like to go every day!

We took Kasha on holiday to the Scillies. I was a bit worried because he doesn't travel too well and it meant a long drive to Penzance followed by a 3 hour boat trip.  He was only sick once on the way down and once he got used to the "floor" moving he was fine on the boat; quite a rough

crossing as it quite often is, but I firmly believe the puppy classes when he was introduced to lots of different surfaces and situations certainly did the job.  He was as good as gold the whole fortnight, no problems in the guest house.
